Aim — to translate the Charing Cross Venous Ulceration Questionnaire (CCVUQ) from English into Russian and to adjust it taking into account the ethnic and linguistic peculiarities. Material and methods. The material for translation and cultural adaptation was the English version of the questionnaire. It consisted of the series of consecutive steps: the translation of the questionnaire by two independent translators (Russian native speakers), the combination of their translations by the board of experts, the reverse translation into English by two English-speaking persons, combining their translations and comparing the result with the original questionnaire, the implementation of corrections. The final stage was the pilot testing on 80 subjects with C5—C6 chronic venous disease. This stage was followed by the analysis of identified gaps and the adjustment of the questionnaire. Results. Translation of CCVUQ from English into Russian was performed. The board of experts did not reveal any significant differences between the original and translated versions of the questionnaire. Original semantic meaning of questions and answers was kept. Testing on patients has shown that the questionnaire has been perceived by the Russian-speaking patients well. The identified gaps was found among questions on personal relationships and hobbies. This can be explained by the fact that many patients lived alone and the majority of them were elderly and senile (the mean age of the study group was 78.8 years). These difficulties are a feature of the original version and cannot be attributed directly to the Russian translation. Conclusion. Charing Cross Venous Ulceration Questionnaire has been successfully translated and validated and can be used in routine practice and research in Russia.
