Every 16 seconds, one dead baby is born in the world. One of the sustainable development goals is to reduce newborn mortality by 2030 in all countries to at least 12 per 1000 live births. The solution of this problem of stillbirth of children is a strategic task of the international community to ensure the socio-demographic policy of the state.
To analyze stillbirths in the Republic of Bashkortostan and determine the reserves for its reduction.
A confidential audit of 1318 cases of stillbirth (SB) were carried out according to statistical reports A-05 of the Territorial Authority of the Federal State Statistics Service for the Republic of Bashkortostan for 2017—2021.
SB-indicator in the Republic of Bashkortostan for 2017—21 averaged 6.12‰ and over a 5-year period it increased by 44.4% (from 5.4 to 7.8‰) with a predominance of respiratory disorders as the main cause of death (88.1%), while in its structure, there was a decrease in intrapartum dead fetuses in 2021 compared to 2017 by 12 times, amounting to 0.4%. Among the diseases and conditions that led to hypoxia and antenatal death of the fetus, the share of which in the structure of respiratory disorders as the main cause of fetal death was 99.6%, pathology of the placenta (68.5%), premature detachment of a normally located placenta (13.8%) and inflammatory diseases (12.6%). Shortcomings in the statistical accounting of SB and the poor quality of medical care for women at high risk, as well as the excessive costs of the healthcare system associated with SB, which amounted to 69.930.491.82 rubles in 2021, were noted.
Identification of risk factors, timely diagnosis and treatment of pregnancy complications, training and involvement of pregnant women to independently monitor the condition of the fetus, prevention of preterm birth are reserves for reducing the SB-indicator, which will also reduce government costs associated with stillbirth.
