BACKGROUND

Pleural lessons and developing intrapleural complications are a complication of pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A multicenter retrospective study was conducted, including 1356 patients with pneumonia caused by COVID-19.

RESULTS

The prevalence of pathological changes in the pleura (thickening and retraction) was 33.6% (in 455 patients). The incidence of pleural effusion with SARS-CoV-2 lung parenchyma damage was 7.3% (in 99 patients). Pneumothorax developed in 17 (1.25%) patients.

CONCLUSION

Involvement of the pleura in COVID-19 is associated with a worsening of the condition and a deterioration in the overall prognosis of the lesion.
